1985-1992 ROMA Corporation Dallas, TX Senior Vice President and COO of the largest BBQ chain, Tony Roma's Ribs. Company was privately owned by the Murchison family, known for oil and gas interests, and being the original owners of the Dallas Cowboys.
Directed the turnaround of a company that had lost money for 5 previous years - the company had lost money every year since Murchison purchased it from Tony Roma. President was a controller for the Murchison family and had no chain restaurant or consumer products/services experience.
Developed new design and décor of restaurants. Implemented new products, which accounted for 25% of system sales. Upgraded restaurant management. Implemented new control systems. Initiated strong franchise program, including the sale of selected company units to franchisees. Directed strong international sales efforts.
Results: Company became and remained profitable within 6 months, showing a profit every year. Sales increased from $60MM to $270MM. Number of restaurants in chain grew from 48 to 160. International sales increased from $10MM to $60MM.
