No where to hide today. Pre-announcement by ALA, lack of
confidence in NOK affirmation of rev numbers for the year
and downgrades in semi equipment, telecom equipment and
mixed reviews on telecom carriers adding to the
uncertainty. Even banks and retailers as a groups are not finding any support. Dwon grade in RIG indicates no traction in commodity prices.

EPC yesterday waas 0.71 oversold. We are finally getting consecutive days of oversold reading.

Historically for the DOW, September is the only month that has shown consistently negative returns.

Intraday EPC= 0.94

There is is more downside to come, the morning bounce was nonexistent.

Uncertainty or Bust
By:Adam Martin
After an hour of trading, the Nasdaq is making new lows, while the DJIA seems to be trading in a range below opening levels. Analysts feel we may soon be testing or passing the lows of the year. Stocks finished weaker yesterday after investors decided they didn't like the merger between HP and Compaq, and today's comments by Alcatel are leading investors further down the pessimistic path. Alcatel has said it may not make have an operating profit to show at the end of 2001. In spite of some stronger than expected numbers over the last couple of days, stocks are not expected to make any kind of sustainable rally until companies start to show some tangible performance improvements. In fact, some analysts fear the worst may be yet to come as Wall Street looks ahead to the release of Q3 earnings.
