John, RE: I think John Joseph is the minority opinion among the analysts.
For the record, most analysts agree with Joseph. Out of 40 analysts that Bloomberg tracks, there are 18 buys, 11 holds, and 1 sell.
Notable analysts that rank INTC as a buy include Ashok Kumar (Piper Jaffray), Scott Randall (Soundview), Terry Ragsdale (Goldman, also has on its recommended list), and Charlie Boucher (Bear Stearns).
While Joseph does indeed have company, though, the average analyst rating for Intel (5 being a strong buy, 1 being a sell) is only 4.067, below both the average for all US stocks (4.094) as well as the average for the S&P (4.120) or the Nasdaq 100 (4.24). On the whole, though, the average analyst rating for Intel isn't too different than for the market as a whole or where Intel has historically stood. It did get above 4.5 during the late '99 early 2000 bubble, but it also was below 4 many times earlier, such as during the FDIV thing. |
