Comverse Technology (Nasdaq: CMVT) is in the final stages of negotiations for two huge deals. One is with Cingular, Bell South, and SBC's cellular company; the other is with Hutchison in Europe.

The deal with Cingular is likely to total $200 million, while the deal with Hutchison is expected to total $100 million. At the end of the second quarter of 2001, Cingular had 21.25 million subscribers.

Comverse Technology recently also signed a deal with an Indian company, as well as a contract with a Chinese company. Each deal is worth several tens of millions of dollars. Revenues from the deals are expected to be spread over the next few years.

Under the deals, Comverse will sell its voice mailbox product together with added value services to the companies. In the deal with Hutchison, Comverse sold infrastructure for third generation value added services.

Industry sources predict that the deals with Hutchison and Cingular are liable to be delayed because of the market climate. However, according to US capital market estimates, there is an excellent chance the deals will go through.
