I wish I could claim a scientific approach, but it isn't. It is simply a mindset wherein short term ownership of a position that is followed by the quick appearance of decent profits, is viewed as an unforseen gift that should not be questioned but merely harvested. Usually it ends up producing a profit of 5% to 10%, but it can be both higher and lower. If the market has been beating up on stocks (as has been the case of late), I tend to be fairly quick on the trigger, as moving back towards cash makes sense in such an environment and one can always rejoin the fray at any time. Lately, this approach has been very productive, but such an approach can also ensure that one has miserably thin exposure if a BK were to visit us.
