HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) -- Patty Hearst will appear in the touring production of Eve Ensler's ``The Vagina Monologues'' when it plays at the Shubert Theater in New Haven Sept. 18-23.

Hearst, who was kidnapped in 1974 by the radical Symbionese Liberation Army, eventually joined the group and helped them rob a bank. She was captured, convicted and sentenced to seven years in prison. She had served 21 months when President Carter commuted her sentence in January 1979.

President Clinton pardoned her in January on his last day in office.

She lives in Wilton with her husband, Bernard Shaw, and two daughters. Her grandfather was newspaper magnate William Randolph Hearst.

Hearst has appeared in several films, including 1994's ``Serial Mom'' and last year's ``Cecil B. DeMented,'' both directed by John Waters.
