I saw the article, which did not describe the context in which the speech was given. However, European Antitrust authorities are faced with the same antitrust issues (and I don't mean "bugs") that Americans face in trying to deal with the concentration of market and political power known as Microsoft. Guessing, I would imagine that the Europeans asked him to speak, and that they are appreciative of the point of view conveyed and knowledge imparted.

Although I agree with the reasons for wanting to break up Microsoft (conflict of interest created by OS company giving its own App developers preferential access to API's), I agree with what I presume your position to be: that it is imposisble on a practical level. What's an OS? What's an application?
I think another issue that antitrust authorities could address is whether the Windows API's should go to a neutral standards body capable of administering them so everyone has equal access. This is something I think it is in Microsoft's own interest to do, but, of course, they never will.

As for your statement about Clark being "pathetic." one person's pathos is another person's competitive strategy.
