InforMax Launches New Desktop Gene Expression Anaylsis Product - Xpression NTI

BETHESDA, Md.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sept. 6, 2001--InforMax, Inc. (Nasdaq:INMX), a leading global provider of bioinformatics software solutions, today announced the release of Xpression NTI(TM), a new desktop application for the analysis of gene expression data.

Xpression NTI provides a variety of algorithms for the processing and analysis of data from single and multiple microarray expression experiments. Filtering, sorting, clustering, parameterisation or profiling methods can be used to analyse and organize data.

With Xpresssion NTI, quantitative data is displayed graphically to expose inherent patterns and an understanding of the underlying regulation of gene expression.

"Sophisticated techniques using microarrays allow scientists to characterize the mRNA expression level of thousands of genes simultaneously, presenting serious storage and data analysis challenges. With the widespread adoption of microarray expression technology across our customer base of 1800 organizations, we have responded to their need for a powerful desktop analysis tool to compliment our Vector NTI Suite." said Alex Titomirov, InforMax Chief Executive Officer. "The creation of Xpression NTI, our new desktop gene expression analysis application, expands our desktop solutions to include an effective management and analysis tool to address these challenges and increase research efficiency."

Microarrays are best known for measuring differential expression - the comparison of relative levels of gene expression between two populations of cells. This techniques allows the identification of a gene whose expression is turned on or off in a particular disease state and the simultaneous identification of the expression levels of thousands of genes in diseased and normal tissue.

Rapidly becoming industry standards, InforMax products support High-Throughput Research(TM), the process of minimizing the time and cost of discovering and validating valuable targets for pharmaceutical, therapeutic, and diagnostic development.

GenoMax(TM) enterprise bioinformatics system is a modular family of analysis programs designed to work with one or more types of genomic and proteomic data including sequence information, gene expression data, protein structure, and protein-protein interactions.

Vector NTI(R) Suite, the industry's most comprehensive desktop software solution available for enhancing laboratory productivity, includes application programs for data management, experimental simulation, strategic recombinant design, mapping and illustration, protein and nucleic acid sequence analysis, multiple sequence alignment, and fragment assembly.
