Not only that, but Japan has a notoriously incestuous and complicated corporate history. It's almost impossible to unravel the labyrinthine complexities of their large corporations and banks. Their system is a mess. We have a pretty clean banking and regulatory environment compared to them. Not only that but we have a government that Fed who are active in trying to solve our current problems. Japan hasn't addressed the real problems for a decade and is only now coming to grips with what they must do to fix things. Why do you think the IMF wants to audit Japan's banks? It's not because they think everything is hunky-dory, I can assure you. The US's problems are entirely different and are not of the same magnitude as those. We are simply going through the cycle, however painful it may seem. A year from now, many of the bears claiming that we're headed into a 3-5 year recession are going to look awful foolish, but so be it.
