Investor group lowers stake in Priceline.com

WASHINGTON, Sept 5 (Reuters) - A group of investors has reduced their stake in Internet commerce firm Priceline.com Inc. <PCLN.O> to 6.8 percent from 8 percent, a U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission filing on Wednesday showed.

The filing shows that the group, led by General Atlantic Partners LLC, now holds 14,918,079 shares. That compares with its previous holdings of 17,418,079 shares, according to an April proxy statement.

The group sold 2.5 million shares on Tuesday, including 135,947 shares distributed to partners, at $5.49 per share, the group said in the SEC filing.

The group said it expects to sell from time to time some or all of the remaining shares it holds.

Shares of Priceline.com, which is best known for offering discount airline tickets, closed 10 cents lower, or 1.8 percent, at $5.40, trading in a 52-week range of $1.06 and $29.63.
