Genus to Top Its 2000 Revenues With ALD Business While Implementing Cost Cuts

SUNNYVALE, Calif., Sept. 6 /PRNewswire/ -- Genus, Inc. (Nasdaq: GGNS - news) yesterday presented at the Class of 2001 investor conference hosted by Wells Fargo Van Kasper in San Francisco.

Tom Seidel, chief technical officer, summarized the company's year-to-date performance, saying, ``If we execute to plan in the third quarter -- and we expect to do so -- we will have beaten our total revenues for the year 2000.'' Genus has forecast a 30 percent increase in revenues for 2001.

Seidel explained that the company's success with its ALD technology is contributing to Genus' anticipated revenue growth over last year. ``Approximately 35 to 40 percent of our revenue through third quarter of this year will consist of our ALD technology. This is a notable achievement in contrast to the 10 percent we sold in the year 2000,'' said Seidel.

Seidel also discussed how the company is concurrently implementing cost reduction measures. The company aims to return to profitability with the help of company-wide pay cuts, three weeks of shut-down during the remainder of 2001, and a reduction in temporary staff and contractors.

``These measures were taken to bring costs in line with revenues, and to offset some of the high costs related to developing new technology systems,'' Seidel explained. The company will revisit and evaluate its cost-cutting measures at year-end, he said.
