Marginmike, I am wondering what approach you take to interpreting the VIX. At the decisionpoint.com website, they graph the vix within a channel, and they say that the interpretation of the vix number depends on where it lies in this channel. They comment that the absolute value of the vix is generally not used as an indicator, because the market can turn at different levels of the vix, with bottoms occurring at vix levels of 30-60 or more.

In the current situation, what would make a vix of 30 or 34 or 40 a point that could be used to make a decision on probable market movements?
