J Xilinx CFO Says U.S. Turns Business Has Improved >XLNX

By Donna Fuscaldo
Of DOW JONES NEWSWIRES

NEW YORK (Dow Jones)--Xilinx Inc. (XLNX) Chief Financial Officer Kris
Chellam said Thursday that turns business in the U.S. is picking up and
staying up in its current second quarter, but that the industry still is
working through excess inventory. Turns are orders placed and shipped in the
same quarter.
According to Chellam, the communications market is where the weakness is,
although there are some signs of light on the enterprise side. He said that
business in Europe and Japan remains weak.
During a presentation at the Salomon Smith Barney technology conference
here, Chellam said Xilinx doesn't have "great visibility" as to the amount
of inventory electronic manufacturing services companies are sitting on. His
sense is that customers are ordering the parts they need and that there
doesn't appear to be any inventory building.
The company plans to give a midquarter update Monday.
