Re: The Jews, the Kurds, the Tutsis of the world, those who have often been the target of abuse or worse, they all have learned bitter lessons what it means to be defenseless. And the only way to defend oneself is to have one's own country and army. Since Jews were minority everywhere, they had to congregate together in one place, and Israel is the only place to which Jews are historically connected. I know you find the effects unpalatable and you disagree with the entire concept, but I hope you can understand....
Yes, as far as I can grasp the "herd mindset", I can understand you indeed... I mean, sometimes I said to myself, "How would I feel about that whole Middle East mess if I were Jewish?" and my answer obviously is: "Heck, I'd just stick by my fellow Israelis --thick and thin, right or wrong..."
Now, let's get real for a minute... You claim that "the only way to defend oneself is to have one's own country and army" and therewith you hint at the United States and its history of war and conquest at the expense of Native tribes --fine. But remember, LV, that, from the outset (in 1777), the self-proclaimed United States of America were self-reliant, so much so to successfully carry through their independence from Britain. The newly sovereign United States didn't rely on some alien power to prop up its precarious regime (pace Lafayette and the French), nor did it need massive inflows of money to sustain a permanent war economy... (rather the opposite, see the Louisiana purchase for example) Hence, don't fool yourselves: you Jews haven't forwarded your self-sufficiency by an inch! Somehow, you are still as powerless as your forefathers, still a frail minority eager to become the protege of the Earth's overlord... Just as in Europe's ghettoes of yore, when benevolent princes and barons granted you safeness. And, likewise, when your American "sugar daddy" will switch plans as the whim takes him, your leeway will be brought up once again...
