Sam, from what I have heard, @Home provides Cadillac service. Some others are as good, I can't imagine it being much better. Some are much worse.
I have no idea how other providers bill. Mine is included on on Cox Communications monthly bill, just below my cable TV charge. Later this year, I may choose to add a third line for telephone service. :)
Not sure what you mean by "are the various systems compatible". Once you get out of the cable plant, they are dealing with standard networking components - Cisco routers, T-3 lines, etc. @Home runs their own Internet backbone, which I gather is built and managed similar to those run by UUNet, MCI, etc. They peer with other backbone providers at several different points. |
