What follows is probably the most ridiculous piece of speculation you have seen this year ! However, I quote from the 1996 Annual Report of Arauco Resources, a predecessor of Kit Resources which is a predecessor of WRM:

"Arauco has prepared through Nuna Logistics a detailed feasibility study on the viability of mining the George Lake ores (read "Goose Lake") and shipping them to the Lupin Mill (Echo Bay) 100 miles to the west. The authors of the study also briefly examined the viability of building a stand-alone mill at the George Lake site. The studies indicated that the mine was viable in either scenario".

You will recall that there is an ongoing feasibility study of a road and port. If Izok should go ahead, trucks would be carrying concentrate to the port and returning empty. Why not use these trucks to transport the gold ore to Lupin via Contwoyto Lake ? This is probably what Kit Resources had in mind when they tried to buy Izok in 1996.

Yesterday, Franco Nevada and Kinross revealed their "controlling"(?) interest in Echo Bay mines. Pierre Lassonde of Franco Nevada sits on Wheaton River board, and of course Kinross is earning a 70% interest in George Lake (i.e. Goose) .
