(COMTEX) B: Granite Construction Awarded $69.5 Million Joint Venture Con B: Granite Construction Awarded $69.5 Million Joint Venture Contract in Florida WATSONVILLE, Calif., Sep 6, 2001 /PRNewswire via COMTEX/ -- Granite Construction Incorporated (NYSE: GVA) announced today that Granite Construction Company, a wholly-owned subsidiary, has been awarded a design-build contract in joint venture with Herzog Contracting Corporation and Washington Group International for reconstructing a commuter rail line in south Florida. The project, awarded by the Tri-County Commuter Rail Authority, traverses Palm Beach, Broward and Dade Counties in Florida. Granite's portion of the $231.6 million contract is approximately $69.5 million or 30%. The scope of the project includes upgrading from single lane track to double track on an existing commuter rail line for a total of 44 miles. Work also includes 26 bridges -- 12 new, 6 replacements, 8 for rehabilitation; 12 stations -- 2 new, 9 modifications, and 1 demolition; and 72 road crossings and signals. The design phase of the project will begin in September 2001, with construction commencing by December 2001. Completion is scheduled for November 2004.
