eBay files to sell $1 bln in stock

WASHINGTON, Sept 6 (Reuters) - Internet retailer eBay Inc.
<EBAY.O> filed with U.S. regulators on Thursday to periodically
sell $1 billion of common stock.
The San Jose, California company said it would use the
proceeds for general corporate purposes, including capital
expenditures, according to shelf registration filing with the
Securities and Exchange Commission.
Under such a filing, a company may sell securities from
time to time in one or more separate offerings in amounts, at
prices and on terms to be determined at the time of sale.
The company's stock closed up 44 cents to $55.09 on Nasdaq,
having traded as high as $77.56 and as low as $26.75 in the
past 52 weeks.
