mindmeld: I view the American export to the world IS the american consumer. If they stop consuming then the global economy is toast and you can forget about a 'recovery' three months from now.

Which can happen if they don't feel an adequate safety net beneath them and build one for themselves.

Which, in conjunction with my "Furk the Economy" reference in the previous post should safely sum up my view of the alignment between what's good for individuals and what's good for the economy at this point.
