I think it looks pretty precarious for the consumer here. I am suggesting that we should not expect the consumer to continue holding up this economy. I think spending will in fact flatline and start inching down. I think xmas sales prospects will become bleak. The consumer has been doing his share but the unemployment number will break his confidence. Corporations need to step up now strongly and open their checkbooks. Bush really seems out to lunch. He clearly has difficulty thinking on his feet and he always seems to me (in responding to any question) to be repeating lines which he has memorized. He is certainly not promoting any confidence in his economic "agenda".
