I never bet that I have to be right. I have a mix of assets, including cash, and I can wait indefinitely for my investments to pay off, and still be comfortable if I am wrong about all of them. I'll be more comfortable if I am right about something, of course. You have to bet one way or the other, and since I work in the software business, and in that space I am betting on the companies that I like best out of the ones that I know: ORCL and SEBL. If I were smart enough to time things, I could have made a lot more money off these investments, but if I had cashed out at the highs, I would be buying back into them now (or sooner), because I can't foresee a realistic future in which they (especially ORCL) won't do well.
