Well, I'm glad you're not a drug researcher, then. Drug researchers sometimes do find correlations between giving a drug and getting a desired outcome, but have no theory about how the transfer works. But they don't just stop there and say, well, we won't discuss this any further until there's something more substantive. They go looking for a theory about how the transfer works.

Seems to me that's how science (and economics) works -- find a correlation you don't understand and go looking for a theory. Sort of what Darwin did.
