As to Greenspan: I just had this argument with someone on a Motley Fool board. Yes, it's easy to make him the scapegoat for the current downturn on Wall Street and now Main Street. Nevertheless, market forces are market forces and Greenspan can only TAME them, not eliminate them. Had the bubble gone on for more years, you might be lambasting him for not containing it sooner (as he did). Paul Voelker was a villian in from 1979-82 during that nasty, inflation breaking recession. But we emerged stronger in the end and now he's a hero. This could well be the pause that refreshes (as Harry Dent's scenario would have us believe) and we could indeed emerge stronger and Greenspan might go out as a hero after all.
