you could be right on this one. however, historically it's been hurting along with Tricord too. It's just hard for these companies to compete with smaller departmental servers like compaq or HP. and when coming up against computational beasts like the Alpha server, it's hard to justify $200K against a comparable $100K alpha machine!

At this time with DEC coming out with new 500 mhz RISC alpha chips....I can't see where someone (running NT) would go with CISC/pentium pro's. Even if they are 200 mhz...

As one chip designer said to me once. "CISC is dead. Give it until the year 2000. CISC was designed for cost effectiveness in mind, whereas RISC was performance based." Now with decreased costs across the board in all chip markets, the cost/performance distinction has blurred even further. While 2000 maybe a bit hasty, I would daresay that CISC will be but a dinosaur in 2010...
