When did we become gloom and doomsters? Here's my timing; note it was well before the mad run-up of the telecosm.

Each month for almost a year I updated my doom prediction. The mob does NOT obey any particular prediction timing, whether it be on the downside or upside or stay still side. The dot.coms were the antigravity exemplar of the principle - it carried on for a couple of years to extreme excess.

Oil kept rising, the mania roared ahead, heedless of the huge telecosmic crash coming to the irrational exuberance of the hot-blooded internerds and telecosmics.

I was amazed that it took so long [almost a full year] for people to understand that the party was over.

Somebody asked when the gloom and doom set in.

I also found some posts explaining the metaphysical certitude of Globalstar which led to their demise and my many rants on why they should cast their fate to the proletariat to decide what the price per minute should be. The same principle applies to getting the world's economy humming.

I think you have put your finger on what is likely to sink us - extreme politicians thinking and pushed by others to 'Do Something'. George Bush has got it right - go on holiday and leave the seething fractalized chaotic mass of humanity to energize in a billion ways to find their best position. There is nothing like a government to really put the frighteners on people. Such as that 'if you move your money we'll tax you' scheme. That'll make money move like mad and hide anywhere and cause a real crash.
