If I put a letter in a mailbox, and it arrives at its destination several days later, I am warranted in assuming that the postal service conveyed and delivered the letter. It need not be true. It could be that some civilian came along and emptied the box, drove around, and eventually delivered all the mail. It could be that some inventor implanted a device in the mailbox that conveyed each piece through teleportation. However, I have no very good reason to seek an alternative hypothesis, and the warranted assumption that the mechanism I was relying on worked has, prima facie, the strongest claim.
