Were vouchers part of the debate then? I recall it being more a vendetta against Weicker, which he deserved. There are few who are more loathsome in politics than Lowell Weicker. I wonder if Buckley knew how Lieberman would turn out, would he have done things a little differently?

Did you happen to catch the lengthy interview on C-Span II last week with Buckley? I didn't catch the whole thing, but I saw enough to hear him speak negatively of John Lukacs. (He mispronounced his last name, too. A subtle Buckleyite putdown) I guess Buckley can't stand it when someone is smarter than him. Lukacs' writing will be around a long time. Buckley won't endure. Those he tends to minimize, like Russell Kirk, will endure.

The lengthy interview was followed by a lengthy interview with Gore Vidal. C-Span has a nice sense of symmetry, don't they?
