Vouchers have been around since the early '80s, at least, but maybe it was later that he expressed a favorable attitude. Weicker was the ultimate RINO politician, and richly deserved being driven out. As for how Leiberman turned out, it has not mattered much.

I did not see the interviews you mention. I have never heard Buckley "minimize" Russell Kirk, to the contrary, it is my impression that he reveres the man. On Lukacs, National Review has never seemed to me to be hostile. Do you remember the comment? I never read any of Lukacs books, just some essays and reviews of the books. My impression is that Lukacs is somewhat eccentric in his views, but I would need to refresh myself.......
