That's what I thought too. But there are too many smart people involved, e.g. Craig McCaw, Bill Gates. Can they all be bamboozeled? That is why I am desperately seeking the justification, the business case for these nets. With a network of LEOs why would you need to pay interconnect $s? Your network could theoretically span the entire globe. Low power tranceivers (cellular phones, DSB devices) would do the rest. $3 telephone call? I don't know who came up with this widely quoted number. I think it may be a canard because it underplays the threat that it poses to the wireline carriers. They will have to price beneath current pricing to get the needed penetration. I don't see why that should not be possible.
