<<Sounds like the drive to emigrate in Israel is inversely proportional to the hardships inflicted on would-be Israelis --how come??>>
As I posted before, Israel is a safe haven for Jews in DISTRESS. Some Jews from the free world will move to Israel but most will not. Already, Israel's population density is higher than that of any European state other than Holland and Belgium, probably much higher still if you exclude uninhabitable areas. Do you want ALL Jews to gather in Israel? Why, do you want all Poles to gather in Poland? Or are you a Christian millenialist waiting for the second coming of Christ? I disagree with Sharon’s desire for massive increases of immigrants from the West, not unless the Arabs will volunteer to cede some land to the Jews. However, in case of Russia, I agree, violent anti-semitism there is simmering just under the surface, and when it explodes the only available refuge is Israel. Or perhaps you can lobby Belgian government to entice some Russian Jews to settle there. Why does it bother you so much that some Jews leave Israel for the West? Israel is a free country, and the Israelis are free people. Do you want to make a trap out of Israel – you can come in, but you can’t get out? I can understand Israelis worrying that it may be an indicator of quality of life in Israel, but you? Every country has both immigration and emigration. So far net inflow of Jews to Israel remains positive. When you will help the world rid itself of anti-semitism, it [the inflow] will probably stabilize. |
