Wouldn't want to be Puff Daschle these days. He had to go, hat in hand, to Bush to see if he could get some of his liberal spending waste saved. The Dems have just remembered who votes for them! Bush pulls the string on the bait, getting Daniels to call Lott and Hastert and say "We're considering letting spending go beyond the phony $160 billion surplus line-in-the-sand", and they light up the media with protest. Meanwhile Dominici attacks from the other flank, saying that spending is too important to be stopped by imaginary limits. And Bush tells Puff "Don't worry. Be happy."

It's the perfect three-way "holding attack":

The REAL massage: You devised this Social Security "surplus" crap, you SOB, now put your greedy constituents where your big, fat mouth is. WE can live with reduced spending, and if the number crunchers declare a recession, we'll propose further tax cuts. Your move, Puff.

Puff looked like a WWI shell shock victim. It's gonna get a lot worse for him.

Rule #1: George Bush is President.

Rule #2: Don't F--K with George Bush...
