Laz, I think that diversity has always been a factor in admissions. Schools might give a little extra consideration to, say, someone who had lived overseas his whole life as the child of foreign service officers or missionaries, or a normally able youngster whose parents were both deaf or little people, or who was a trumpet virtuoso, or had been a child movie star. I think that's a great idea for students to be exposed to people who have unusual and interesting backgrounds.

It was only when the term, diversity, was co-opted by the groupists that it became a problem. Diversity on an individual level is something I consider desirable in reasonable doses. I think we should applaud this decision and the schools that are already practicing it.
