Common_sense, I thought your post was interesting. I do think that you may have a point, and it is an interesting thing to keep an eye on. However, I also think that the percentage of investors that meet the description in your previous post is not large enough to cause long term concern for the perception of trading stocks. Most people know the risk they are getting into when they invest. Also, it's only been the high tech industry that has been hit the hardest, so not everyone is in danger of dwindling retirement 401k funds.

Still, I think Jim's comment was more of a cynical way of suggesting that people in this forum are blind to the possibility of worse times ahead. I don't think that's necessarily true; rather, people simply feel that although worse times are a possibility, other data seems to suggest that some markets have found their bottom. If everyone were as negative as Jim, then his prediction would become a self fulfilling prophesy. Attitude does make a difference in the market, and I think people are trying to stay positive, yet as realistic as possible. But I don't think Jim is going to quit his nay-saying until the forum gives him the satisfaction of admitting he's right. And of course no one has reason to do that. Yet.
