To All:

OT

I invite all interested to PM me with responses.

My youngest son is in his last year of chemistry studies at UC-Irvine, and doing well. The subject seems to come naturally to him, which is good because early on, he wanted a degree in a science.

His mother and I have both been encouraging him to next get an MBA of some sort. We have also encouraged him to get it from a "name" school...one that will be "recognized" as of some challenge value to a prospective employer...thus marking him as an exceptional candidate...and simultaneously preparing him for a rewarding career. You get the idea: "Nothing is too good for my kid!, etc."

He's raised an interesting question: How do I get into biz school with no experience in biz?

(That's not quite true...he's been in biz as a waiter for some years...learning such basics as customer service, portion control, order input, timely delivery, production control, employee relations, taking supervision, on-the-job professionalism and so on.)

I'd like to hear from those of you who have MBA's as to how he might benefit from this furthering of his education, and in particular how he might begin to think of a science+MBA education fitting into the workforce. Truth is, I'm having a bit of trouble helping him see into the forest, and perhaps some of you might be able to help me help him.

He's interested in world economies (spent the summer traveling in Europe), so I've suggested international studies, international law, and/or economics. His mother suggests a straight MBA, but I suspect those come in a variety of flavors, Hotel Mgt, Restaurant Mgt, Health Care Mgt, etc. Any thoughts as to what schools he might attend.

TIA

Chaz
