Heard on Bloomberg that Gabelli made $45million (I guess) last year. They also talked about mutual fund managers making MORE money than in past years even though performance was dismal. They are rated and paid based on: 1. performance against the S&P and 2. competition from other firms. Where are those yachts?

IDC: PC Sales Down This Year
9/08/01 2:36 AM ET

IDC, probably the best-known market researcher in the PC arena, was out Friday with a new report forecasting that PC sales, in units, will actually be down in 2001, for the first time since 1985.

Not just slowing gorwth, mind you, but what the analysts like to call actual "negative growth." In other words, fewer PCs sold this year than last year.

IDC says the world market will absorb about 129.6 million PCs this year, vs. 131.7 million in 2000.

Maybe worse, IDC forecasts unit-sales-growth will return, but only modestly, hitting 13.1% in 2003...and then falling to 9.2% in 2005.

Luckily for those left standing, the PC companies will apparently be quite a bit smaller anyway. I do like how they have such exact figures though <g>.
