Re <<And then we learned of the real world>>
I can't say that I am aware of all the evil that is happening in this world, but for my age, I have been around the globe. This world is more "fair" than it was 2000 years ago and there is no reason for the trend to stop this century.
Re <<The Jews, the Kurds, the Tutsis of the world, those who have often been the target of abuse or worse, they all have learned bitter lessons what it means to be defenseless. And the only way to defend oneself is to have one’s own country and army>>
See, that is just it. If Jews are entitled to their own country because they have been target of hatred and atrocities, then why shouldn't every body else? Almost all races and ethnicities have been target of unfair practices (granted not to the extent of the Jews) but starting to divide the earth based on religion or race, and sacrificing the very same rights of another race or religion is not the solution.
Re <<I know you find the effects unpalatable and you disagree with the entire concept, but I hope you can understand.>>
Yes I disagree with the concept and more so its side effects. My Parents are Iranians. I am not proud or ashamed to be Iranian. I could care less. I am who I am and my genetic ancestor do not make me a good or bad person. My genetics does not entitle me to any special right or obligate me to make up for any of their mistakes. As I have mentioned on this thread before (I think), I am involved in the "Big Brother" program in San Diego and my little bother happens to be Jewish. I will give my life to make sure that such atrocities will not happen to him, but I will do so because he is a human which I care for, not because he is Jewish.
It really bothers me when I read the comments on this thread and realize how most of us have lost the big picture. We are differentiating ourselves based on BS reason to the point of dehumanizing other religion or races. And we are justifying our action on what happened decades or centuries ago. And worse yet, we are teaching our hateful practices to our children so the killing can continue.
