It's the same reason why the same Itanium system will be far cheaper than a similarly-configured UltraSPARC or PA-RISC or Alpha system. Itanium is SHV. The others are not. Period. Forget USIII or PA-RISC. Explain to me why an equivalently configured 8 way Itanium system from H.P. (HAS) to cost the customer so much less than the equivalent Power4 system from IBM. Forget about current pricing. It is meaningless. What part of the cost to build the system is so much lower using Itanium. Is it the cost of the Itanium processors to H.P.? What is it? Is it because you label it SHV. I'd appreciate a serious answer this time. THE WATSONYOUTH
