Interviews are too judgemental...no matter what people think. The first 93% of an impression of someone is non verbal.....and the rest of the time is spent justifing that first impression.

I've actually helped go over scholarship apps with the requirements described, and you would be surprised how candid and refreshing they are....

This method has produced wonderful candidates, and who cares what race, creed, color or financial background has to do with anything...Obviously, all of that certainly
doesn't have to count. It simply doesn't matter.
