Re: Hardly evidence for Israel's drifting away from the US and towards the EU and Russia as you said.
To be sure, it's a delicate, surreptitious process... A brutal decoupling between the US and Israel is too wild a prospect to be only hinted at. However, as regards the EU-Israel relationship, I can assure you that the drift is under way --that is, Europe's drifting away from its traditional pro-Arab posture. Indeed, Europe has traded off its Arab bias against an overt alliance with Israel. I can sense it every day in the media... Take the UN Conference in Durban for instance: French PM Jospin threatened to quit if the "slanderous wording" against Israel was not removed from the final draft... Well, we all know that French Jews make up a key constituency in Jospin's bid for the Presidency in May 2002. Most French Jews just hate current Prez Jacques Chirac and, by the way, where the hell was Mr Chirac in the past few weeks? How come we didn't hear him uttering pro-Palestinian feelings?? As a matter of fact, all the European leaders have tacitly packed behind the pro-Israel lobbies.
