He gets 500 mpg.

Uhhhh....I think you added a zero onto the end there! ;-) Hybrid/EV's mileage is actually the opposite of ICE's (Internal Combustion Engines). At stop & go and low speed urban driving levels it actually gets better mileage than when it's out on the open road. This is because the car spends more time in its battery mode. On the open highway the gasoline engine kicks in more often, hence fuel efficiency becomes less.

But to learn more about its real world capabilities I highly recommend this site, evworld.com It's a great little site dealing with all things EV, "green," etc..

As for using lith-poly as a battery "sink," I'd think its logical to suppose the auto-industry would love to go in that direction, if only for the sheer reduction in weight such a move allows, which opens up all kinds of creative automotive applications. Indeed, if memory serves I believe Nissans experimental EV is using lith-poly. So lith-poly's application may be sound.

Whether or not VLNC itself will come to play a roll in the EV sector has yet to be proven.

Regards!

John~
