[Friendly Debate, part II]
<<what is MSFT doing that's DMT-specific? INTC? neither have business relationships with AMTX.>>>
MSFT and GTE are in trials with Amati in Redmond, WA.
I thought everyone knew what Intel was doing with xDSL. No, I will not give my source, but I know you have your own and won't have trouble checking this out.
<<<this started because you poo-poo'ed WSTL's prospects and implied that even BA/NYX wasn't forgone conclusion CAP.>>>
I should never have said that about BA/NYNEX and don't know how it came out that way. I think I was going to say there was no guarantee there'd be a BA/NYNEX merger and my whole point had been you can reach faulty conclusions if you start from a faulty premise. At any rate, I hope to god I didn't mean BA wouldn't go CAP because I think it's a slam-dunk.
<<< Except for the gang of four, none of the companies or countries (!)has made any such announcement. (I agree many of those will go DMT but that's not the same thing.)>>>
I am striking out. I should have said, "indicated to me or to those with whom I've spoken," or "based on early indications from purchases and/or trials."
*Gang of Four --- announced *GTE --- accepted within industry that they'll do some CAP, but primarily DMT *Germany --- the following six were dubbed DMT by industry insiders, no public announcements *France *Italy *Spain *Israel *Sweden *UK --- same situation as GTE *Hong Kong --- ditto *Japan --- based on what I hear through several sources *Canada --- same as GTE *Singapore --- ALA has this sewn up, I believe *Switzerland --- same as Sweden and other European countries *Netherlands *South Africa *Brazil(the last 3 mentioned by Siemens)
<<<BTW, based on N+I conversations with Nortel i'd have to put theml in the CAP camp for now, and expect canadian telcos to go CAP.>>>
Nortel is licensing DMT from Amati and, yes, I know they have CAP, too. As for Canadian telcos going CAP, I wouldn't bet on it. Read their CRTC documents regarding TV broadcasting and see what you think. I haven't followed BC's plans as closely as I have BCTEL's.
I do apologize for saying "announced." That was wrong, wrong, wrong.
Since that post was to bill, I'll be completely humbled by the end of the night. SteveG will be delighted. :)
Cheers!
