I called it in to my office when I caught the news, then spent a horrified hour in front of the TV watching events develop ... I flipped it on as the second aircraft impacted. My USMA class has probably lost several members in the Pentagon, as have many others. My sympathies go out to anyone who has been affected by these events. Many Americans will prove their heroism today by putting themselves in danger to save others, and I appreciate their efforts, big and small.

That said, remember the words of Japanese Admiral Yamamoto at the conclusion of his successful attack on Pearl Harbor:

"I fear all we have done is awaken a sleeping giant."

The giant has again awoken. We can interpret today as no less than an undeclared act of war.
