Saturn V, Re: "The shock of the attack will definitely take its toll on consumer confidence. Fifty thousand people worked at the World Trade Center and it normally has ten thousand visitors a day . The toll will most likely exceed that at Pearl Harbor ! A massive tragedy for the country !"
Earlier in the day, Dan Rather said something very close to this. He talked about warfare of the 21st century, a warfare of sneak attacks and cowardly actions, much like the attack on Pearl Harbor over 50 years ago. If the government doesn't deal with this swiftly and efficiently, confidence in the U.S. will definitely be reduced. Already, it has been said that the value of the U.S. dollar dropped dramatically before the markets closed, no doubt due to the world perception of this incident.
I pray for the immediate loss of the thousands of people injured or killed in the crashes today, but I do not relish the thought of tougher times ahead if the U.S. economy suffers due to this incident. And even if things do recover over time, it can be said that things will never be the same. Whether it be government spending, the feeling of safety in this country, or the perception of the U.S. to other countries, things are going to be changing.
