It's an attack on all of us, Poet, an act of pure barbarism. The US is simply the clearest and strongest voice of progress, of civilisation... of course it was the target for this horror. And of all the West, New York is surely the symbolic heart of the modern world.

Meanwhile I've been listening and reading in real-time, or near enough. I've stood in the lobby of the WTC, and have a friend who's worked there (not, AFAIK, today...). I've heard and read the words of eye-witnesses, minutes afterwards.

You're not far from me, not far at all.
