Regarding the point of my post, you may interpret it in whatever way you like.

But one thing is certain: Americans are not perfect and would have fared better to have been a little less cocky.

Yes, the US did help many countries but it was not entirely for nothing or pure and unadulterated altruism: there were ulterior motives. Remember the Cold War ---- a time of morbid fear of the former Soviet Union and of the so-called Yellow Peril (China). Uncle Sam poured billions abroad to counter the onslaughts and hegemony of Communism. It splurged bigtime with an agenda, i.e., to command the loyalty and beholden-ness of the gift recipients and to protect its own ass. It is ironic that the much feared Yellow Peril contributed much to keeping the US inflation low by supplying it with inexpensive goods and Communism is now seen to have been nothing more than a paper-tiger.
