jim_p, Good Evening,
""This is nothing short of war, and the only laws that should apply should be the rules of engagement."
...and "Amen" to That, Brother.
There will be no other acceptable solution to today's events but American military might with a modicum of wisdom and a good measure of utter ruthlessness.
As an American living on foreign soil, I cannot relate to you all the frustration I feel when seeing the homeland attacked. Thank God for our ability to communicate electronically, it is a double edged sword which carries both hope and angst, but forever removes any bliss associated with ignorance.
Bush's response must be swift and precise, and the American people must be resolved to commit to a few years worth of unpleasantry. Nothing short of that amount of time will do if we want these weasels to be exterminated.
jim_p, you are not so much older than I. We both probably know some of the proud veterans of WWII and also understand exactly why they feel that pride. May I suggest that all of you refresh your contacts with those members of older generations who served in the last successful military endeavor conducted by the US, WWII. Have a talk with them. Ask their thoughts and memories. You may be surprised to find a curious alignment which you didn't understand before today.
Now I ask one other thing. There will be many opinions expressed by ourselves and our leaders in the next few days. The criticism and blame are already flying. But for us, let's keep the 'Tolerance' in our title in force. A lively discussion moves forward, and a pissing contest is futility itself.
In the coming months many if not most of us will be changing the way we think about some things, and ideas are the currency of that renovation - like it or not, the time has come to stand and decide what you are. Don't let this event become another annoyance which fades into the background to be remembered at its 10 year anniversary.
Today is a defining moment in American history, and by your response you too will be defined. Do not squander what God has granted you, and remember that many good people today went to their deaths with a madman punctuating their final thoughts.
Best Regards to All, and Proud to be American.
