when the multi-deck freeways collapsed in san francisco in the earthquake of 1989, survivors were miraculously pulled from under the huge chunks of concrete many, many days later.... i think in one case as many as seven days later. automobiles were smashed flatter than the proverbial pancake, yet survivors were taken out.

new york will produce these rays of hope in the dark days that are to come...
