A military response of proportional ruthlessness will be condemned, and even more moderate actions, second guessed; sanctions against terrorist host countries will be criticized as soon as the first malnourished child is shown to the media; Pan-Am type justice would take so long in coming that it would be totally ineffectual. Mark mentioned that words fail him, but the truly important words are the words of support that will be missing for whatever way the US chooses to react. Knowing that, I have to say that all these sentiments of condolence ring a bit hollow. At this moment, barges are ferrying the dead across to New Jersey while three cab companies have ripped out their back seats to help with a land route.
