How long can donated blood be stored for use?

If the answer is more than the number of days before you can donate again, donate now, and then again in that number of days.

Incidentally, there was already a shortage of blood, especially in the Northeast, before this happened. There were restrictions imposed on those who have travelled or lived extensively in Europe over the past 15 years due to mad cow disease, and it was causing fewer donors to be eligible. So anyone who is eligible should definitely donate.

On the Today Show this morning they were also posting phone numbers for donations to disaster relief agencies.

I just spent an hour watching the aftermath on television. The huge cloud of acrid smoke rising over the East River and out toward Long Island Sound. One particularly poignant shot......a close up of the Statue of Liberty, and then the camera drawing back slowly and panning ever so slightly to the East, showing the devastation. Dare I say it, if we don't get out tax cut this year or next and the money is spent to deal forcefully and effectively with these terrorists, I won't be so unhappy writing a check on April 15.
