Hi JSB.
Some time back during another hi-jacking I remember reading comments on protecting flights. There was the discussion that merely bullet proofing didn't address the ability of hi-jackers to commence assassination of passengers, panicking and firing off rounds of ammo or using detonation items resulting in rapid and catastrophic decompression. They also still had the opportunity to commit suicide and go to their great reward along with the innocent hostages.
It was volunteered that perhaps an effective program may be to have video monitoring of all areas outside the cockpit and also give the cockpit the ability to inject a submissive "gas" instantly into the passenger area. Discussion ensued whereby it was noted that innocents would be subjected to the danger of "going under" along with the perpetrators but it was viewed as preferable to an all encompassing catastrophic end to the incident.
Perhaps some approach of this nature would be useful.
Regards
